Batam city was one of the city in the province of Riau Islands, Indonesia. Batam is an island city which is strategically located because it is located in the international shipping lanes. The city has close proximity to Singapore and Malaysia. Batam city was one of the fastest growing cities in Indonesia. When it was built in the early 1970s this town inhabited only about 6,000 residents, but until December 2008 had a population of 915 882 inhabitants.
History
Batam Island was first inhabited by the Malay people as the strait since the year 231 AD. The island that was once the terrain of struggle Admiral Hang Nadim in the fight against these invaders used by the government in the 1960s as a logistics base in Pulau Sambu petroleum.
